At PRISMA, we highly value the exploration of diverse methods and concepts that contribute to both our company's growth and the personal and professional development of each employee. Knowledge sharing is a fundamental aspect of our work culture. Therefore, we aim to offer insights and share relevant and exciting concepts and methods with you.

At our PRISMA Offsite in September 2024, Ines Mensah introduced us to the concept of Ikigai.

This workshop focused on using the power of imagination to visualize and manifest goals, creating mental images, environments, and feelings even before they happen. Visualization is an active cognitive practice that rewires the neurons in our brains. By leveraging our unique imaginations, we learned to believe and trust in our minds.

Five core steps to make Ikigai work:

One fascinating insight was that our minds cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined. This principle has been used by athletes for decades, notably by Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian. Phelps uses visualization as a mental rehearsal tool, creating vivid, detailed images of himself executing a perfect performance. He visualizes every detail of his race, from the initial dive to the final stroke, priming his body and mind for flawless execution when the time comes.

PRISMAtes also learned to use visualization to overcome limiting beliefs—self-imposed barriers that hinder personal growth and success. These beliefs shape our perceptions, influence our decisions, and set the boundaries of our capabilities. However, with visualization, we can break free from these beliefs and unlock our potential.

Here are the steps PRISMAtes learned to harness visualization for success:

1. Define Your Goal Clearly: Articulate your goals clearly; the more specific, the easier it is to visualize.

2. Create a Vivid Mental Image: Close your eyes and form a detailed image of achieving your goals. Picture the surroundings, emotions, and specific actions involved.

3. Engage All Your Senses: Visualization involves all senses. Feel the success, hear the sounds, and embrace the positive emotions.

4. Acknowledge Limiting BeliefsCommon limiting beliefs include: “I don’t have time,” “I am not enough,” “It has to be perfect.”

5. Challenge the Belief: Visualize overcoming these beliefs with resilience and creativity.

6. Repetition is Key: Repeat your visualization regularly. The more you visualize success and overcome limiting beliefs, the more familiar and achievable it becomes. Accompany your visualization with positive affirmations like “I can,” “I will,” and “I am capable.”

By recognizing and challenging limiting beliefs, PRISMAtes learned to reprogram their subconscious minds and reshape their beliefs to achieve anything realistic they set their minds to.
